As a Sean Bean fangirl it does distress me how many times the man has died on film. It is something he's known for doing. I had a good laugh when I found this banner and thought I'd share. And in case your wondering there's only a few listed that I haven't seen.

Summer is here and the blockbuster movie season began last month. I've seen most of the big movies that have come out so far. I don't get the hype around the new superman movie. I thought it was boring! (so did the other 5 people I saw it with - in fact Brett fell asleep) Yet on the discussion boards I've read most people seem to like it.

Every year I watch the Oscars even though I think they are completely out of touch with what is a good movie and what qualifies as a classic movie these days. It's like a car wreck...I just can't look away

IMHO The Avengers was the best movie of 2012 but those kinds of movies never get recognized. In fact since Return of the King won, I haven't agreed with much that the academy has rewarded.

Still I do try to see as many of the the nominees as I can. I got close this year but there are still 3 of the best picture nominees I haven't seen. Of the 7 I did see, I'll be rooting for Argo because I really did like that movie best of the nominees. I thought Naomi Watts in The Impossible was great but I don't think she'll win. I didn't see all the fuss about Lincoln but I'm sure Daniel Day Lewis is a lock. Les Miserables is one of my favorite musicals of all time (seen it over a dozen times on stage and I kind of know the entire score by heart) but I really did not like the movie. I adore Hugh Jackman but the energy of the live performance was missing for me.

So what was the best movie you saw this year? Do you agree with the Oscars or do you think they are out of touch? Who are you picks for the winners tonight.

My Oscar predictions
Picture: Argo
Director: Spielberg for Lincoln
Actor DDLewis for Lincoln
Actress Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook
Sup Actress: Anne Hathaway for Les Miz
Sup Actor: Christof Waltz for Django Unchained (though I loved DeNiro in SLP I don't think he'll win)

And the week begins as I try to post more often.

Work has been going really well. I got to travel to our plant in Waukegan, IL two weeks ago for a very high profile assessment task force. It was a great opportunity to do my statistics stuff for some high level managers. It went really well. It's always good when the guys who work in the stratosphere know you name. :D

And my NFL fangirl was happy because I met Micheal Turner's brother who works at the plant.(For those of you who don't know, Micheal Turner is the running back for the Atlanta Falcons). I love talking about the NFL and I had great time talking to Ryan Turner and hearing fun anecdotes about his brother. My poor Texans were eliminated and won't be in the super bowl this year. I was rooting for the falcons but I'm just glad the Patriots didn't make it.

Happy Monday!

It's been awhile since I posted my thoughts about Television. I thought with the new season kicking off on Monday now would be a good time to weigh in on some of this seasons new shows.

Partners
I love David Krumholtz. I watched every episode of Numbers (even wrote some fic) but even he can't save this show. The premise has potential but the acting is so bad. Michael Urie is so over the top as the stereotypical gay man. I found his character selfish and unlikeable. As for Brandon Routh, well, I just don't think the guy can do comedy. He was so bland and his acting was not good. Until these characters show some kind of chemistry and ability to entertain, I'm giving it a pass.

Animal Practice
I caught the pilot on Hulu. I predict this is the first show cancelled. Stupid and lame and not worth going into more detail really. Don't waste your time.

The Mindy Project
This is a show that has been getting a lot of support from the critics. I don't know why. I really didn't like the main character at all. Mindy is a beautiful, successful doctor but she acts like a moron and all she cares about is getting a boyfriend. I really hate shows that imply a woman can never be happy or truly fulfilled without a man to love. Sorry I won't be watching

Ben and Kate
I know I watched the pilot on hulu but I honestly can't remember much about it. I guess that says it all. The characters were annoying and the whole thing was just average.

The New Normal
I didn't like the pilot that much, but I've kept watching because anything that's banned in Utah immediately gets my support. Ellen Bursten's female Archie Bunker is hard to take and way too over the top but they seem to be toning her down a bit byt the third episode. If they can get her to a point where she doesn't grate every time she's on screen, I think I can get behind this show. Bebe Wood, the young girl, is the highlight of the show. As for the gay couple at the center, i like both the actors better then the pair in Partners above and they are starting to show some real chemistry.

Elementary
I wanted to hate it because to me the BBC's Sherlock is the definitive modern take on Sherlock Holmes. But I really enjoyed Elementary. It was different enough that I stopped comparing. I like the idea of Joan Watson and Johnny Lee Miller is actually doing a very good version of a tattooed, reformed drug addict, bad boy Sherlock. Still The BBC show is brilliant on every level and if you have to choose, then go with Sherlock over Elementary.

Go On
This show I love. I have adored Mathew Perry since the first episode of Friends and he is just hilarious in this show. I like the characters in his support group and John Cho as his boss is really funny. I've been waiting for Perry to find the right post friends project and I think this is it.

Revolution
It has potential, but as an engineer the whole loss of electricity thing bugs me. They better explain quickly how they can't even generate electricity using water or steam or wind. The premise makes no sense. And if they have 'changed the laws of physics' then they better explain soon. JJ Abrams gave us Lost but it was crap in the end. Kripke gave us Supernatural but broke many of his own absolutes before he left. So I'm not hopeful that their collaboration will produce a satisfying show that answers all the mysteries. If I ignore my misgivings about the electricity issues for now, I am enjoying the characters. At this point the show reminds me of a cross between Lost (the good seasons) and Jericho. So at least for a little while, I'm going to keep watching.

I think that's enough for now. What are you watching? Next time I'll talk about the returning shows like Castle...loved it!

I know that most of my flisters are not football fans but MNF WTF NFL!!! I can't believe what I saw last night. The Seahawks win on one of the worst calls I can ever remember. The replacement refs suck...
who's line

It's time for Roger Goodell to admit he was wrong and get the professionals back before someone gets hurt. For those of you who don't know, the NFL locked out their union refs and brought in scabs, most of whom weren't good enough to ref division 3 college ball. The sad part is that the refs are asking for the equivalent of 3million in benefits - that's pocket change for the NFL.

On a completely different note (and I do feel like a bit of a hypocrite criticizing and celebrating football in a single post but I can't help myself) the HOUSTON TEXANS are 3-0 for the first time in their 10 year history. Whoo HOO!!

I want the real refs back so when my Texans win the Super Bowl no one can say they didn't earn it!!!
